Meet the celebrities who owns private islands



Being a celebrity has it’s ups and downs. The common perception is that celebrities and famous personalities have everything in life.

The greatest advantage of being a famous celebrity is that they are usually rich that’s why they have easier life than other people.

Spending thousands of dollars on luxury beach getaways seems impossible enough for most of us, but these celebrities had their eyes on something a little more extravagant: owning entire private islands. Free from the prying eyes of the press, select stars have splurged on real estate in some of the world’s most gorgeous destinations.

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie

According to the Daily Mail, Jolie spent US$15.6 million on a secluded heart-shaped island, some 50 miles away from New York City, for Pitt’s 50th back in 2013. It’s sad though that they already broken up.

Leonardo DiCaprio

In 2005, the actor spent his millions on an island located off the coast of Belize for US$1.75 million. He plans to use it to build an “eco-resort” which will be completely powered by renewable energy and designed to increase the biological health of species on the island and in the waters around it.

Lindsay Lohan

This child star is taking over two islands off the coast of Dubai, which will be renamed Lindsayland, and will feature luxury hotels, upscale restaurants, idyllic pools, and plenty of leisure activities.

John Lennon

In 1967, Lennon bought an island in the west of Ireland and called it ‘Beatles Island.’ After his death, his wife Yoko Ono sold it and gave the money to an Irish orphanage.

Jay-Z and Beyoncé

Jay-Z also purchased a private island in the Bahamas so that his wife and family could enjoy holidays in peace.

Tommy Lee/Pamela Anderson

Tommy Lee apparently bought one of 300 luxury man-made islands off the coast of Dubai and offered it to his ex-wife Pamela Anderson.

Julia Roberts

Julia Roberts allegedly owns her own island off the coast of Cape Cod.

Nicolas Cage

Nicolas Cage is infamous for spending his millions on extravagant things, one of which was a deserted island in the Bahamas.

Johnny Depp

The ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ actor has his own Caribbean island called Little Hall’s Pond Cay.

David Copperfield

The millionaire magician reportedly spent US$50 million on a private island called Musha Cay in the southern Bahamas. That, along with more than a few other islands in the area are known as the Islands of Copperfield Bay.

Steven Spielberg

The revered director owns an island in the Portuguese archipelago of Madeira, just north of the Canary Islands.

Celine Dion

The Canadian singer owned a private island in Quebec, just 15 minutes from Montreal, which she later reportedly listed for US$29.3 million.

Sir Richard Branson

The English business magnate bought Necker Island in the British Virgin Islands in 1978 for less than US$200,000! He now reportedly rents the island out for US$42,000 a night.

Robin Williams

Though the late Robin Williams was very private about it, it’s widely believed that the late actor owned an island off the coast of British Columbia, Canada.

Cristiano Ronaldo

The well-known Portuguese soccer star bought an entire Greek island as a gift for his agent’s wedding!

Eddie Murphy

In 2007, Eddie Murphy purchased Rooster Cay island in the Bahamas, but it wasn’t his first island! He’d previously bought another one in the Bahamas.

Mel Gibson

In 2005, the actor bought a volcanic island called Mago in Fiji, which is one of the largest private islands on record.

Tim McGraw and Faith Hill

In 2003, the country singers bought an island which they call ‘L’île d’Anges’ in the Bahamas. After nine years, the couple completed building an enormous vacation home on the island.

Ricky Martin

In 2008, the singer reportedly bought an island near Angra dos Reis, off the coast of Brazil, for US$8 million.

Diana Ross

The singer bought an island in French Polynesia, near Tahiti, in 1986.

Lenny Kravitz

The musician doesn’t own the entire Eleuthera island in the Bahamas, but he does have his own private beach and a surf-side studio. The location was especially important for him as his mother was Bahamian.

Island is just one of the things these celebrities can buy using their hard-earned money.
